Alex Brown

Alex Brown emigrated to Australia in 1988 and soon found work as a casual usher at the Greater Union State Theatre who were then hosting the Sydney Film festival. 

Alex was appointed as Assistant Manager at the State Theatre within 12 months and in between live shows and screenings went on to the Greater Union Cinema circuit as a relief manager. 

Alex worked in all the Sydney CBD and metropolitan cinemas and Drive ins until he was promoted in 1992 to Greater Union State Manager of South Australia where he resided for 3 years. 

Alex returned to Sydney in 1995 and took over as Cinema General Manager of The Greater Union George Street Flagship Cinema.

In late 1996 Alex opened the Greater Union Liverpool 12 screen Multiplex Cinema leading an award-winning team who smashed box office records.. 

A stint in running IMAX Darling Harbor and the Sega World Theme park was followed by Alex joining Hoyts Cinemas as the General Manager of Hoyts at Fox Studios where he progressed to being a regional manager in NSW.

Following Hoyts Alex worked at two independent cinemas, as General Manager Cronulla Cinemas and also Cinema Manager at the Randwick Ritz.

Since 2008 Alex has been working as a shopping Centre manager for multiple property groups. 

Volunteer work is dear to Alex and he is currently President of The Kingsford Smith Scout Group and was a volunteer driver at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the 2023  FIFA Women’s World cup as a FIFA Driver. He also works as a professional Freelance Photographer.

Alex is also a committee member of the NSW Cinema Pioneers.
